It's only May 26 and we have tomatoes on our tomato plants. We have 4 cherry tomato plants and one Roma plum tomato plant. Our plants are wired to our windowsills looking south out over Manhattan so they get lots of sun. It hasn't been close to a warm spring so go figure. Hopefully they will bear fruit all summer! We have basil, purple sweet peppers & peas too. I'm not sure the peas are going to produce but it was worth a try.

Tea Towel Medallion Quilt Challenge
CLEAN.UP.YOUR.ACT. is pretty much the story of my life. I make a mess, I clean. I make a pile. I make another pile. I get rid of a pile & another pile surfaces. Sometimes the piles are s*#t and sometimes they are treasures. Sometimes they are both. Just like my life.
This was a challenge from Victoria Findlay Wolfe's 15 Minutes of Play blog from back in January. Technically we were supposed to be done at the end of March but Victoria is soooo nice and supportive and just wants everyone to make things --so many contributors are still posting their progress. I just started with earnest last night. I wanted to step out of my green & grey box but I don't think that's going to happen with this project! I need to make fabric from the 5" squares shown and am working on how I'm going to do it. It will be improvisational but I don't want to start cutting and sewing until I have a sense of what I want the final design to look like. I really like the fabrics and don't want them to be too small....

Scout
This is Scout. She loooves quilting. Almost as much as she loves prosciutto. She was playing with the thread while I was trying to sew. Bad kitty.
SUPERNOVA!!!
Supernova!!! Thanks Katie Pedersen at Sew Katie Did! I LOVE my Supernova top. It's not sewn together yet but it will be before the week is done... and I already have plans for another. It's quite a puzzle to put together but I just numbered all my blocks with tape (that's what all the little blue things are) and lined them up... and voila!

Bird Quilt
We have a bird bed. A pocked pewter iron bed with bird finials up the wazoo. I love my bed. I bought it ages ago. It has bird bedding too. It's very birdy. The funny thing is I'm not a fan of live birds. I like a tasty roast chicken, but those feathery things flying up in the air? Not so much. I live in NYC and we've got all kinds of pigeons. Don't like the pigeons. Yes, they are actually quite beautiful (in a rat that flies kind of way) but they are just filthy and they poop on you every opportunity they get. Yuck to pigeons.
Sooooo, I'm making a bird quilt for the bird bed. I started it in a quilt as you go class last summer. With much time off, it is almost done! I'm just sashing and sewing it all together. Another couple of weeks and it will be added to the bird collection...
This is a quilt I feel is a little muddy... Too many types of fabrics, not much cohesion. It's not modern or traditional... A little of both but not enough of either. But it is what it is. And we're gonna use it.

Supernova
So I'm working on a supernova from a blog... Can't remember her name at the moment but will give full credit & the link as soon as I do! I know I have 4 other projects in the works but I jus had to start this one before I lost my mojo. I actually wanted to make this top so I could use some new fabrics but I ended up using some other new fabrics... Stuff I bought at Quiltcon and some other stuff I already had. I decided I really didn't want to use greens (my go to color). It was a real struggle to not go there! I went with orange & gray instead. Hope it pops. We'll see on this one. Still need to make a bunch of blocks before it comes together.

First post
Ok, so here I go into the blogosphere... Typos, grammatical errors and incomplete thoughts et al.
I am a quilter. It is what I like to do best. I like to cook and bike and hang out with my guy and our pets too, but I really like to quilt.
Like all quilters, I love fabric. We are all a bit obsessive when it comes to fabric. I'm not as discerning as I should be. I have too much green & not enough neutral. I know I'm not alone on that one! I tend to muddle my designs up with too much stuff... Too many styles, too many palettes, too many ideas. But I'm working on that. And would appreciate any input on how to control such impulses! I like too may things but crave simplicity. I want my quilts to look like Denyse Schmidt's but they don't. Not sure what they look like... They are all over the place. So this is what I am going to do. I am going to practice mindfulness and hope I can stay focused. I've got three big projects in the works and I will post my progress and welcome any feedback.
